San Diego State University offers a Doctoral Degree Program in Evolutionary Biology in collaboration with the University of California Riverside Graduate Program in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology. This joint program involves research training under the supervision of participating SDSU Faculty, whose members are drawn from Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, and Molecular and Cell Biology Program areas in the Department of Biology, as well as participation from UC Riverside Faculty in the Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology graduate program and certain outside members.
One stellar aspect of the program is an academic year of residence at UC Riverside, enabling the student to gain invaluable expertise from courses, seminars, and lab experiences with participating UC Riverside Faculty. Faculty research interests at SDSU and UC Riverside address a wide range of topics, including molecular evolution, genomics, paleontology, population biology, and systematics, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of evolutionary biology.
