People in the Hedin Lab

MS Students:
Robin Keith - Robin is studying species limits, systematics, and historical biogeography of the California endemic spider genus Pimus (F. Amaurobiidae). This research has been supported by the Women's Environmental Council, the American Arachnological Society Vincent Roth fund, the Mabel Myers Memorial scholarship, and the SDSU EB scholarship.
Shahan Derkarabetian - Shahan is studying species limits and historical biogeography of sclerobunine laniatoreans from western North America. We've collected interesting material on a 2006 trip to Arizona and New Mexico, and a 2007 trip to Colorado and Nevada.
Maureen McCormack - Maureen is researching cryptic speciation and phylogeography in the Appalachian species Sabacon cavicolens.
Casey Richart - Casey is working on species limits, phylogeny and phylogeography of Acuclavella (Opiliones) from the Pacific Northwest.
Jordan Satler - Jordan starts in Fall 2008, and will study landscape genetics/phylogeography of the trapdoor spider species Aliatypus thompsoni from the Transverse Ranges of southern California.

Undergraduates (Fall 2008):
to be determined.......

Former Postdocs & Students:
Dr. Pierre Paquin (former postdoc) - Pierre worked on endangered Cicurina from Texas caves. Currently working as a senior scientist for SWCA Environmental Consultants in Austin TX. Link to more about Dr. Paquin.
Dr. Cor Vink (former postdoc) - Cor worked on gene development for the Spider ATOL project. Much of Cor's work involved collaboration with Dr. Cheryl Hayashi at UC Riverside. Link to more about Dr. Vink.
Steven Thomas (former MS and undergraduate student) - Steven conducted extensive undergraduate research on the Appalachian laniatorean Fumontana, and went on to conduct MS thesis research on phalangodid laniatoreans in the southeastern US. Steven is currently employed in the Genetics Division at CRES (Conservation and Research for Endangered Species).
Michael Lowder (former MS student) - While at SDSU Michael studied intraspecific genetic divergence and hybridization in the Habronattus amicus species complex. Michael now teaches at Kendall Valley Elementary School in North Carolina.
Sarah Crews (former MS student) - Sarah worked on phylogeny, biogeography, and morphological evolution in Homalonychus spiders from the desert Southwest. She is now a Ph.D. student at UC Berkeley working with Dr. Rosemary Gillespie.
Krista Pease (former MS student) - Krista earned an Interdisciplinary degree in Science Education working on the development and assessment of a Coastal Sage Scrub educational curriculum at Cabrillo National Monument. Krista currently lives and works in Berkeley, CA
Maggie Reinbold (former MS student) - Maggie conducted her MS thesis research on the population genetics and phylogeography of saucer bugs (naucorids) from desert springs of Baja California. Maggie is now the Conservation Education Specialist at CRES (Conservation and Research for Endangered Species).
Steve Foldi (former MS student) - As an MS student, Steve worked on species limits and phylogenetic relationships in the Habronattus tarsalis species group, focusing on the study of male morphology. Steve is now in the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona.
Jim Starrett (former undergrad) - While an SDSU undergrad, Jim worked in the Hedin lab on cryptic divergence and biogeography of the California turret spider, Atypoides riversi. This research was funded by an NSF REU Supplement grant. Jim received his MS degree in Biology with Dr. Liz Waters (SDSU Biology Department), and is now pursuing his Ph.D. at UC Riverside with Dr. Cheryl Hayashi.
Joe Deas, Jr. (former undergrad)- Joe worked on various molecular projects, including some opilionid research. He spent the 2005 summer working as a M.O.R. E. fellow. Joe is now in the Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona.
Dustin Wood (former lab associate)- While working on his MS thesis research with Dr. Tod Reeder, Dustin conducted a side-project on Hypochilus thorelli phylogeography. Dustin is currently working for the USGS in San Diego.
