Bio
J. David Archibald, Professor Emeritus, Department of Biology, College of Sciences SDSU taught courses on mammals, macroevolution, biogeography, and vertebrate evolution for 34 years at SDSU and elsewhere. His research on the systematics and evolution of early mammals, biostratigraphy, faunal analysis, extinction, and evolutionary history was funded by grants from various organizations, most notably the National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society.
His extensive fieldwork took him to the American West innumerable times and to Asia 13 times. Since retirement his focus has been on the history of biology and evolutionary thought, notably regarding Charles Darwin. He has developed a notable, extensive collection of Charles Darwin books and articles used in his research.
