A Message to the Members of Our Biology Community
The faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Biology unequivocally condemn all forms of discrimination, hate, and violence. We are committed to eliminating barriers that disproportionately impact members of underrepresented and minoritized populations. We pledge to listen, to learn, and to take tangible action to ensure that our department, our university, and the broader community become more inclusive, safe, and supportive spaces for everyone. Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is continuously developing strategies and action plans aligned with the College of Sciences DEI Plan, to foster an environment of respect and belonging.
To all our students, faculty, and staff, we want you to know that we see and acknowledge the challenges you face. The struggles of living, learning, and working through times of social unrest and ongoing systemic inequalities are not easy, and we are here to support you. We encourage you to use the university’s resources, including the Inclusive SDSU system, to report any instances of bias or discrimination you may experience or witness.
As we continue to strive toward a more just and inclusive community, we reaffirm our commitment to standing with you. We will work alongside you to dismantle the systems of oppression that limit opportunity, restrict freedom, and perpetuate inequity. You are not alone, and together, we will build a more equitable future for all.
